Pittsburgh
Steelers linebacker James Harrison may be looking at another hefty fine from the
NFL after his last helmet to the helmet hit against a player Cleveland Browns.
In the fourth
quarter to win on Thursday over Browns, James Harrison hit the defender Colt
McCoy in the crown of the helmet mask from the right when the Browns got rid of
the ball defender. Harrison
drew a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty for the hit, which is also the
side of McCoy for two performances. James Harrison defended his actions
- and hit - after the game, saying McCoy should be regarded as a leader in this
instance.
"I
understand that when the defender out of his pocket, he is a runner," James
Harrison said. "All
the defenseless (Ness) and the freedom that the defender has left in his pocket
and you can do it the same way as he ran back. The blow was too late, so I really
do not understand why it was called." Works is considered to play
differently, and Rule 12, paragraph 2 of Article 13 (8) and (3) NFL Rule Book
supports their decision to fine James Harrison and Steelers.
"When a
passer-by outside of the pocket, as in the case of Cleveland quarterback Colt
McCoy last night," explained the league, "he is still deprived of the
protection of Article 12, paragraph 2 of Article 13 (3), which prohibits
defensive players from the use of his
helmet against a passer, which is in a defenseless position, including
"forcibly strike the head or neck with passers-helmet or mask, regardless
of the defender and uses his weapon to address pedestrian environment, or
caught him."
Browns coach Pat
Shurmur refrained from criticizing James Harrison hit during a press
conference on Friday. Shurmur
added, however, he has strong feelings, but I will not discuss them publicly. Last
season, James Harrison knocked Browns wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi
and Joshua Cribbs of the Week 6 game with hits to the helmet. Harrison was
fined $ 75,000 for hit on Massaquoi.
