‘’ITC Sues Suhel Seth Rs 200 cr for Tweets’’

KOLKAYTA: Tobacco to hospitality major ITC Ltd is suing the man ad Suhel Seth and secular for Rs 200 rupees for what the company claimed were "defamatory" tweets, and newspaper articles against the ITC and its chairman, YC Deveshwar. The two suits, each asking Rs 100 lakh as compensation have been filed in courts in Bangalore and Kolkata.
ITC officials say that Seth is making such comments since the company's contract with him and his firm were terminated at the end of 2007. Set firm Equus is used to handle advertising of the company from 2002 to 2005, and thereafter he was connected with the company for another two years.
Although the ITC filed the first lawsuit against Seth in the Bangalore City Civil Court, the second was recently sued the Calcutta High. Seth confirms that the ITC has two cases against him and sought damages of Rs 100 lakh in Bangalore. He said that he did receive a complaint details of a lawsuit against Calcutta High.Summer message on Twitter by Seth says: "YC Deveshwar ITC was sterling track record at all costs avoid retirement ... he could also be offered Maosits (sic!), but then ...." Another tweet reads: "YC Deveshwar, ITC has just been nominated Chairman ETERNUS (sic!) ... Remember to honor ..." Seth recently removed some of his comments on Deveshwar from Twitter.
Five days ago he posted this tweet: "I wish that my account is constantly hacked ... some of the tweets attributed to me, unfortunately not my ... take the steps! "ITC officials say that he kept all the records of old Seth tweets that it has sufficient evidence and, accordingly, has filed two suits.When contacted, a representative of ITC said: "The matter is sub judice and, therefore, we can not share details of his company was locking with the ITC, and it was decided not to renew his contract since he was an attempt to discredit the company ... top managers collectively expressed their deep resentment toward his continuing defamatory statements, and we therefore decided to file a lawsuit. This position is no longer available in Seth's Twitter account. Seth, a weekly column he writes for a newspaper Calcutta (he was answering questions from readers on smoking), said: "... "Seth advertising agency Equus used to work for the hotel business ITC.
People familiar with the matter said that, losing your hotel bill, Seth turned to other companies for advertising contracts, ITC, which did not materialize. However, Seth denies this: "Let me say that Equus Advertising was handling business hotels to ITC and ITC Equus did not come to any business: the then director-in-charge of the division of hotels asked to work on Equus brand hotels."

" Currently, ITC is working with agencies such as JWT, O & M and rediffusion.
